About BYU Men’s Rugby vs. Colorado State in Provo, Utah

Get ready for an exciting match when the BYU Men’s Rugby team goes head-to-head with the Colorado State University Men’s Rugby Club in Provo, Utah, on October 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.

The BYU Men’s Rugby team has a long and impressive history, dating back to the late 1800s. It wasn’t until 1962, when BYU student John Seggar founded the team, that it gained official recognition as a BYU sports team.

Over the years, the team reached national prominence with the guidance of coaches such as David Smyth, Dean Ormsby, and Mark Ormsby.

Although the Cougars’ participation briefly halted in 1987 due to a tournament format change, the coaching was passed to Vernon Heperi, who later became the head coach.

In 1991, David Smyth returned to lead the Cougars. Under his guidance, the team achieved remarkable success, including multiple national championship wins.

BYU’s rugby program has emerged as a dominant force in the country, securing five national championships in the last decade alone.

The program is proud of its legacy, which includes 47 Collegiate All-Americans and nine former players representing the USA National Team in international competitions.

In 2019, Steven St. Pierre, a former team captain and national champion, took over as head coach.

St. Pierre is dedicated not only to continuing the program’s success but also to devoting well-rounded individuals. His vision extends beyond the rugby field, emphasizing character development and leadership.

The Colorado State University Men’s Rugby Club, based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is also a formidable opponent. With a roster of talented players, they consistently maintain a high ranking among the top rugby teams in the country.

As a Division 1A team in the Rocky Mountain Conference, they regularly compete against strong opponents like the University of Colorado, the University of Wyoming, Utah State University, and the United States Air Force Academy.

Helaman Field will be filled with energy as supporters from both teams cheer on their favorites. Don’t miss this incredible rugby match!

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
