Paul Getty Museum\, the Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State\, and the Springville Museum of Art. \nShe is an expert in Modern and Contemporary art\, including French\, American\, and Asian art. \nIn April 2021\, she became the Director of the Museum of Art\, taking over from Mark Magleby.  \nDuring the ‘Spain and the Hispanic World’ Gallery Talk\, you’ll see prehistoric Iberian earthenware\, Roman-era sculpture\, beautifully illustrated manuscripts from medieval times\, religious artifacts\, maps from the Age of Exploration\, Latin American jewelry\, and masterpieces created by famous Spanish artists.  \nMore than 150 art pieces\, relics\, and ancient items will be displayed.  \nThis event is free and open to all! You’ll have the opportunity to talk with Dr. Janalee Emmer and others attending. She learned from great harpists like Tara Ogden Skouson and Janet Peterson while at Utah Valley University (UVU).  \nAt UVU\, she performed with the UVU Symphony\, Lyceum Philharmonic\, UVU Wind Symphony\, and UVU Chamber Ensemble. She earned scholarships\, making history as the first UVU graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Harp Performance.  \nNow\, Bridget is a professional freelance harpist creating beautiful music for weddings and events. She has a studio in Orem where she teaches harp to students of all ages.  \nShe’s involved in the local music scene\, serving as the American Harp Society Utah Chapter secretary. She collaborates with local groups like BalletNEXT\, West Valley Symphony\, Witness Music\, and StringFX.  \nYou might also know Bridget as the harpist for the band Little Moon\, winners of the NPR Tiny Desk competition. University Ave\, Provo\, UT 84601.  \n  \n\nAbout History Lecture: Firmina (The Life and Legacy of Brazil’s First Black Female Writer) in Provo\, Utah\nMaria Firmina dos Reis (1825-1917) was Brazil’s first female novelist and the first Afro-Brazilian female novelist. She used her writing to advocate for the rights of enslaved people in Brazil. \nOne of her famous books is called Ursula\, which tells the stories of enslaved individuals.  \n Her work wasn’t recognized for a long time. But in the 1970s\, a researcher rediscovered her work\, and since then\, scholars have been interested in learning more about her.  \nAssistant Professor Jordan B. Jones\, a Luso Brazilian Literature and Culture scholar\, visited Brazil to learn more about Maria Firmina dos Reis’ life and work.  \nThis lecture at the Provo Library will help you understand why Maria Firmina dos Reis is important in history and literature. University Ave\, Provo\, UT 84601.  \n  \n\nAbout Homegrown. The Provo Amateur Art Show in Provo\, Utah \nThe Provo City Library invites artists of all ages to participate in the “Homegrown: The Provo Amateur Art Show.” It’s a yearly event where artists can share their creations with the community.  \nThe event is for Provo’s amateur artists\, defined as those not deriving a steady income from or teaching art.  \nYou can submit 2-D or 3-D visual art\, including paintings\, drawings\, photographs\, sculptures\, and more! There are prizes in two categories: \n\nYouth (ages 3-18) \nAdults (ages 18 and above) \n\nRules to Follow:   \n\nYou need to have a Provo City Library card to participate. \nEach person can submit up to 3 artworks\, though entry does not guarantee acceptance. \nArtworks should avoid showing nudity\, extreme violence\, or using harsh language. \nDon’t use perishable materials or glitter in your artwork. \n\nArt Guidelines: \nFor 2-D Art:   \n\nPieces must be ready to hang with hanging wire. \nFraming is recommended but not required. \nThe size shouldn’t be more than 50 inches in any dimension. \n\nFor 3-D Art:  \n\nNeeds to be ready for safe display. \nIt should be no taller than 16 inches if it’s for a display case. \nNon-breakable pieces shouldn’t be bigger than 60 inches in any dimension. \n3-D entries may be excluded if safe display is a concern. \n\nSend your artwork online before the deadline on February 28 at 11:59 p.m. You can do this on provolibrary.org.
