This guide I’m making isn’t only a list of places to eat. It’s my own food diary with all the yummy bites and secret spots I’ve found.

I’m excited to show you the very best sushi spots in and near Provo Utah!

Happy Sumo started way back in 1999. They were one of the first places to mix Asian flavors and make sushi rolls when not many places did that. They made some of the tastiest sushi rolls ever.

Happy Sumo cares a lot about the environment. They do things to create less waste, like using paper straws. They believe in making good food while also taking care of the Earth.

Happy Sumo is thoughtful about different diets too, like gluten-free or vegan, so everyone can enjoy their food.

I went to Happy Sumo Sushi in Provo, Utah for my granddaughter's and it was awesome. I loved how cozy and fancy it was inside.

It reminded me of the sushi spots I used to go to in Japan. But what surprised me was their extensive menu! They had lots of yummy starters and entrees.

We started with miso soup, pot stickers, and Sumo Crispy Rice. That crispy rice appetizer has Ahi tuna, inari, citrus wasabi, avocado, and tobiko. Yum!

Some of us went for steak and chicken, but I was drawn to their signature sushi rolls. My granddaughter liked Philly rolls and Spicy tuna rolls, but guess what I tried? The Rockstar Roll! It has spicy tuna, tempura bits, and fresh avocado and lime.

The story of Yummy’s Korean BBQ & Sushi begins with mixing flavors from Korea and Hawaii. Sun Choi’s parents are originally from Korea and moved to Hawaii in 1984.

They started cooking in Hawaii and later brought their tasty dishes to Utah. They made Hawaiian-style Korean BBQ and served meals at Polynesian Cultural Center. They even had a small spot near Sunset Beach on the North Shore.

When they came to Utah in 2012, they started making fresh Sushi sold in stores nearby. Their business grew, and they provided Sushi Chefs to big companies like Vivint, Ancestry, and Overstock. Slowly, they spread their food to Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and Las Vegas!

Then, in 2016, Sun Choi joined the family business, broadening their services to caterings and delivery, especially in Silicon Slopes. Opening a restaurant was tough, but with family support, they made it happen in Orem.

Utah got its first All You Can Eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ and Sushi restaurant in March 2018. Sun Choi’s parents traveled to South Korea many times in 2017 to bring the best food in Utah.

Their sushi menu is full of yummy options! They have California Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll. Their Aloha Roll is spicy, and topped with crispy onions and their house sauce. The God Bless America roll is a must-try. It is loaded with shrimp crab, avocado, crunchy onions, and a house sauce.

Yummy’s make everything from scratch–the sides, meats, sauces!  They mix South Korean flavors with Utah’s local ingredients.

Shogu Shusi Bar in Provo, Utah, has been serving delicious sushi since 2008. It’s a favorite spot for many because the place is welcoming.

The first time I went, I got curious about their menu. They have tons of dishes to try! I found my top pick, the Playboy Roll. It has shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado, topped with tuna, house sauce, unagi sauce, and tobiko.

Their Tuna Tataki did not disappoint. It has seared yellowfin tuna, radish, avocados, sprouts, tomatoes, jalapenos, and ponzu. The sriracha sauce they put on it makes it so good.

My family and I ordered the Tempura Sampler–a mix of crispy tempura veggies and shrimps. It was crunchy and soft at the same time.

Then, there’s the Citrus Roll. My family loves it! It’s a California roll with salmon and thinly sliced lemon, with ponzu sauce. The lemon makes it taste fresh and tangy.

What surprised me was how big the portions were. A sushi place like this, serving tasty and generous servings, is hard to find. That’s why I can’t wait to go back and enjoy those delicious flavors all over again.

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
