Day’s Market in Rock Canyon: Best Grocery Store in Provo

By Katerina Gasset

Day’s Market is my favorite neighborhood grocery store. It’s just a few blocks from my home, so I can walk there in less than 10 minutes.

I remember, as a child, there were small neighborhood candy stores and grocery markets. Most of them are no longer around. Big grocery chain stores replaced the small stores. While the sales may be better at the larger chain grocers, the convenience of walking to a store and picking whatever I need for dinner is valuable.

Day’s has all the essentials you need from fresh produce, an amazing bakery, your poultry and meats, all your dairy and non-dairy products, snacks, toilet paper, and all other essentials.

Day’s Market also has great hours. They are open until 11 p.m., which makes dinner time much easier! Note: they are closed on Sundays.

Since I live in the neighborhood (Edgemont, Rock Canyon, Timpview), I get their weekly ad in my mailbox every week with all the current sale items.

Here is the link to the Day’s Market weekly ad. You can check this link weekly if you are not getting it in your mailbox.

One of the best things about shopping at Day’s is their rewards system. It’s definitely worth signing up for if you shop there regularly.

If you are shopping with your rewards offers in the store, make sure you give the cashier your phone number to get the best pricing. Otherwise, those savings won’t apply!

Day’s Market in Provo is a family-operated business. They are LDS (members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). Since they are members, you will only see a few selections of coffee and no alcohol.

You will find a wonderful selection of European treats like Ritter’s Chocolate. They also sell the amazing “Made in Utah’ chocolate brand and ‘Mrs. Cavanaugh’s’ chocolate bars. So yummy!

The bakery is good. My favorite item in the Day’s Market bakery is the Sourdough when it is fresh and warm. The high-quality ingredients make it taste so good!

Day’s Market has also won awards for their donuts.

Day’s Market has decent sales. The store is small and cozy, friendly and neighborly. You will find all your essentials and most items you are looking for at Day’s Market.

The discount brand they sell is called Food Club. There are great prices on Food Club items like canned foods, baking goods, and other items. Food Club has been around since 1945 and still provides high-quality products at great prices today. The locals know Day’s Market was the go-to place for all things Food Club.

There is a natural line at Day’s Market called, Full Circle. I use their dish detergent and other products.

I like to check out the non-food items at the front of the store. You can find wonderful LDS church books, puzzles, journals, etc. They also sell seasonal items like Christmas, Easter, and Halloween decor and gifts. They also sell high-end baby clothes which are adorable. This gift/ book section can be pricey compared to the BYU Bookstore, but you are paying for convenience.

The staff here are amazing too. They are super helpful and nice. I met some return missionaries working there. They also hire high school students from the neighborhood.

My favorite grocery item at Day’s Market is their fresh squeezed, NOT pasteurized, Orange Juice! So delicious! I refuse to drink pasteurized or frozen orange juices - the taste isn’t the same.

The freshly-squeezed orange juice from Day’s is always perfectly sweet and refreshing. You can find it in an ice bin right next to the first aisle of produce.

History of Day’s Market in Provo

Best Groceries In Provo Utah

Day’s Market in Provo, Utah, has been a cornerstone of the city since 1981. Founded and built by the Day family, the store has undergone some transformations over the years.

The store was established when Gerald Day purchased a store in Heber City in 1972. The business quickly became a family affair as his children, and many of his grandchildren, were helping to run it. In 1981, the decision was made to open a store in Provo, which is still operating today.

In 2001, an extensive remodel took place, which helped refresh the look and feel of this decades-old store.

Day’s Market began another major remodel project in October 2018. After months of hard work, they unveiled their newly remodeled store in May 2019 with a grand re-opening celebration that drew many visitors from around the area.

Today, Day’s Market remains one of Provo’s top destinations for everything grocery related, including fresh produce and organic items.

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
