How to Forward Your Mail to Your NEW Provo Utah Address

By Katerina Gasset

I have created an easy guide on forwarding your mail to Provo. Follow these tips to make your move smooth and stress-free so you don’t miss any important mail in your new Provo home.

How Do I Forward My Mail to a New Address in Provo Utah?

1. Online:

  • Visit USPS.com: The official USPS website provides a simple and secure way to change your address online.
  • Avoid Scams: Be cautious of third-party websites charging excessive fees for address changes. You can update your address for just $1.10 through USPS’s official site.

2. In-Person:

  • Visit Your Local Post Office: Head to your nearest post office if you prefer face-to-face assistance.
  • Request the Mover’s Guide Packet: Ask for the Mover’s Guide packet containing Form PS 3575 to change your address.

Steps to Change Your Address Online:

1. Visit USPS.com:

  • Go to the USPS website and locate the “Change of Address” section.

2. Complete the Form:

  • Provide your old and new addresses, as well as your moving date.
  • Verify your identity to confirm the address change request.

3. Pay the Verification Fee:

  • A fee of $1.10 is charged for identity verification purposes. Make sure the billing address on your credit card matches either your old or new address.

4. Confirmation:

  • Once the change of address request is processed, USPS will send a confirmation email to the email address you provided.

5. Follow-Up Communications:

  • You’ll get a Move Validation letter sent to your old address.
  • About 5 business days before your change of address starts, you’ll receive a Customer Notification Letter with your confirmation code) at your new address, along with a welcome kit of coupons from USPS partners.

6. Mail Rerouting:

  • Your mail will be forwarded piece by piece to your new address.

7. If Identity Verification Fails:

  • USPS will email you instructions and a barcode. Take this email and your photo ID to your local Post Office to complete the process.

In-Person Address Change:

1. Visit Your Local Post Office:

  • Bring a valid photo ID and any other required documents.

2. Complete Form PS 3575:

  • Fill out Form PS 3575 from the Mover’s Guide packet provided by the retail associate.

3. Submit the Form:

  • Hand the completed form to the retail associate, who will process your address change request.

4. Retain Confirmation:

  • Keep the confirmation receipt or number provided by USPS for your records.

Additional Tips:

  • Set up mail forwarding before you move to give the post office enough time to process your request.
  • Remember to inform other important institutions, such as banks, insurance companies, and government agencies, of your address change.

Are There Any Fees Associated With Forwarding My Mail To Provo?

If you choose to set up your mail forwarding or change of address service directly through your local post office, it's free of charge. If you choose to do it online through the USPS website, there’s a small fee of $1.10.

How Long Before Mail is Forwarded to a New Address?

While mail forwarding begins within 3 business days of your request, this timeframe varies depending on the volume of requests received by the postal service. During peak seasons or holidays, processing times may be longer.

Tips for Smooth Mail Forwarding:

  1. Submit your request for mail forwarding before your move to Provo.
  2. Monitor your mail delivery. Contact your local post office for assistance if you notice any significant delays or issues.
  3. Notify key contacts, such as banks, utility providers, and subscription services, of your address change as soon as possible.

What Happens If You Don't Forward Your Mail When You Move?

  • Without mail forwarding, your letters, packages, bills, and important documents will be sent to your old address. This results in your mail ending up in the hands of strangers who have moved into your previous residence.
  • Failing to forward your mail can lead to delays in receiving important communications. Whether it’s bills, legal documents, or notices from the government, overlooking mail forwarding results in missed deadlines and late payments.

To avoid these problems, apply for USPS mail forwarding service in advance. By doing so, you can rest assured that your mail will be redirected to your new address.

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
