Provo Municipal (now International) Airport

Provo Municipal Airport is not only Utah’s second-busiest airport; it’s also one of the most traveler-friendly and convenient airports out there! 

With 70,000 square feet of terminal space, Provo Municipal Airport is the perfect mix of comfort and convenience for any traveler. 

UPDATE: Since it's opening in July 2022, Provo International Airport has catered to more than one million passengers! And it looks like they aim to cater to more people with the expansion from 4 to 10 boarding gates now. 

As of May 2024, Allegiant Air now offers flights to 11 destinations while Breeze Airways offers flights to 10 destinations. Check out the updated list at the bottom of this article.

Does Provo Utah Have An International Airport?

The Provo Municipal Airport will be offering international flights! Isn’t that amazing? 

Mayor Michelle Kaufusi shared this big news in July 2023 at the Stadium of Fire event. The airport's expansion is a significant milestone for Provo, as it has primarily served domestic flights within the United States for quite some time.  

The decision to expand the airport came in response to the growing demand for international travel. After years of planning and hard work, the dream of having an International Airport in Provo has finally come true! 

Although we don’t know the specific routes now, we can tell you that Allegiant and Breeze Airlines are two airlines to provide the new international services. Allegiant has the potential to offer flights to Mexico, while Breeze Airlines has expressed interest in extending its services overseas. 

This news is a game-changer for Provo residents and those in neighboring areas. Having an International Airport in Provo, Utah, allows us to easily travel abroad for work or leisure. It also makes visiting family and friends in other countries much more convenient! 

I’m excited to see how this new development will impact our community in Provo, Utah.

How to Get to the Provo Municipal (now International) Airport

Two main ways to get to the airport from I-15 are the Center Street and the University Avenue Exit. 

If you decide to take the Center Street exit, head westbound on Center to Lakeview Parkway and turn left. This will lead you to Mike Jense Parkway, where you can access the general aviation field. If you’re looking for commercial services, turn onto Sky Way - the new terminal building is there. 

But if you’d like to take the University Avenue exit instead, turn left at the end of the off-ramp and head westbound on Lakeview Parkway. From there, you can head to either Sky Way or Mike Jense Parkway, depending on your needed service. 

It’s that easy! You’ll have no problem finding Provo Municipal International Airport by following these directions. 

What Is The Closest Major Airport to Provo, Utah? 

Provo has two major airports to choose from - Provo International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). 

The Provo Municipal (International) Airport (PVU) is the closest major airport to Provo, Utah. This airport is located just 4 miles away from the heart of Provo. PVU offers flights to domestic destinations through airlines like Breeze Airways and Allegiant Air. 

But if you’re looking for a broader range of flight options, Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC/KSLC) is your best bet. SLC is located 49 miles away from Provo, Utah. With over 300 daily departures, the airport connects to various domestic and international destinations. 

SLC is ranked as the 21st busiest airport in the United States and the 47th busiest in the world.

Provo Municipal Airport has two runways, and both are crucial to the airport’s operation.

The first runway is Runway 13/31, and it’s a big one! It measures 8,600 feet in length and 150 feet in width. The runway is made of durable asphalt, which means it can withstand the pressures of heavy aircraft and constant takeoffs and landings. Impressive, right? 

But that’s not all! Provo Municipal Airport has a second runway, Runway 18/36. Although it’s not quite as long as Runway 13/31, it’s still a crucial part of the airport’s infrastructure. Runway 18/36 measures 6,602 feet in length and 150 feet in width.
