You're in for a treat if you’re like me and adore waffle cones. Don’t forget to try their special dessert, the BYU Brownie.

My flavor adventure began with the classic chocolate, and I have to say, it’s a must-try. Some flavors have surprises like cookies, nuts, or caramel swirls mixed in. It’s like a party in your mouth!

Whether you’re a fan of traditional vanilla or feeling a bit adventurous like I was with graham cracker ice cream, there’s something for every palate.

Let me tell you about my visit to Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream.

It’s tucked away on State Street, right between Orem and Provo. Step inside, and it’s like stepping back in time to a groovy 1960s ice cream parlor. The vibe is awesome.

The service is fast! The staff knows exactly where each flavor is. Let’s not forget the sizes and prices – they’re fantastic! You won’t find a better deal in Provo and Orem!

I picked Chocolate Chunk, dark chocolate with dark chocolate chips – absolutely delicious!

My daughter went for Turtle with that salted caramel twist. My granddaughter couldn’t resist the coffee-flavored ice cream with almonds, and my son loved the salted caramel. I had to sneak a taste of them all, and they all tasted fantastic!

What makes Handel’s extra special is its incredible history. Can you believe it goes way back in 1945? A lady named Alice Handel started making ice cream in Youngstown, Ohio. She used fresh fruits from her garden and secret recipes, and her ice cream became a neighborhood favorite.

Even today, Handel’s keeps Alice’s traditions alive. They make fresh ice cream daily, just like she did, using her original methods and recipes. You can feel their passion for making and sharing ice cream with their communities.

Have you ever been to Ike’s Creamery in Provo, Utah? It takes you back to the 1950s. Think of it as an ice cream place with all those fun 50’s vibes.

For my family, Ike’s Creamery is a favorite. Their ice cream is delicious. They have classic flavors like vanilla and chocolate, but they also have some exciting ones like mango dole whip. You can get one, two, or three scoops in a cone; their waffle cones are perfect.

If you love putting lots of toppings on your ice cream (like I do), they have everything you can imagine – sprinkles, cherries, chocolate, whipped cream, and more. They also make sundaes with hot fudge and caramel.

And their banana splits? They’re huge! We once bet my 10-year-old grandson that he couldn’t finish one, and he proved us wrong!

The best part? It’s in a convenient location. I love taking my kids and grandkids to Provo Beach, and we always stop by Ike’s Creamery for some ice cream. It’s like a tradition for us. But just so you know, it can get pretty crowded, especially on Friday Date Nights – it’s a popular place.

Brooker’s Founding Flavors Ice Cream had a fascinating story, and it all started with a guy named Brian Brooker who dreamed of making his own ice cream.

Around 25 years ago, after Brian finished high school, he went on an adventure along the Appalachian Trail in the northeastern United States. What’s remarkable is that he made a tradition of trying the local ice cream in different towns along the way during his trip.

After graduating from BYU, Brian and his wife went to Europe. Part of that trip was because Brian was studying to become a lawyer and a business pro. During their European adventure, especially in Italy and 11 other countries, they tasted authentic Italian gelato and fell in love with it. This experience sparked the idea of making their own fantastic treats.

Brian decided to dive into the world of making top-quality ice cream. He spent over a decade learning from the experts and studying ice cream-making.

Brooker’s Founding Flavors have some fun and unique flavors, each with an incredible story behind it:

  1. George Washington’s Indispensable Flavor: It’s a chocolate ice cream with peanut butter cups and peanut butter swirl. A delicious combo!

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
