By Katerina Gasset

It's a new beginning—you've moved into your Provo, Utah home, and now it’s time to get the energy rolling. You will need to find which utility companies serve your area and contact them!

Follow this step-by-step guide for tips on how to quickly power up in no time flat:

  1. Identify who your electric and gas companies are.
  2. Call them to confirm the above, and then ask them what they will require in order to turn on your utilities.
  3. Open your account
  4. Schedule your start date
  5. Get your meter readings and give those to your energy providers.

Turning On Gas and Electricity for an Apartment or Rental Property

Note that if you’re moving into an apartment or rental property, your landlord may already have the utilities set up for you.

Check with your landlord first. See if they have taken care of the gas and electricity setup for you. It’s always good to double-check.

The companies don’t list their coverage areas on their websites. It is a pain in the you know what! When I moved here, I had to call a few companies to find out which companies service my house. Kind of annoying, I have to admit.

When I lived in Florida, it was super easy, one company, one number.

Here in Provo, not so much!

Fortunately, I asked my neighbors, who helped me find out. I am sharing with you what I found out to make this less frustrating for you. I am also going to give a list of the companies to call in this post.

I live in the Indian Hills neighborhood, on the Provo bench. The company that services my house for gas is Dominion Energy

You can reach their customer service at 800-323-5517.

Remember that if you suspect a gas leak, you need to leave the area immediately and call 911 or Dominion Energy at 800-767-1689. Safety should always be your top priority.

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
