Kokonut Island Grill in Provo: Authentic Hawaiian Food

By Katerina Gasset

I have yet to discover a better value for Ahi Tuna Poke bowls than the one I order at Kokonut Island Grill.

A photo I took of one of the poke bowls we ordered at Kokonut Island Grill. Portions are great and taste is superb

I order Poke bowls whenever I can! I love Poke! But most places are very stingy on how much raw ahi tuna (or salmon) they put in your bowl.

The Ahi Tuna Poke bowl size at Kokonut Island Grill is very generous! Their Poke sauce is delicious. You get to choose between brown and white rice plus other add-ins. This is a must when you rate an authentic Hawaiian food restaurant.

At the time I wrote this blog post about Kokonut Island Grill in Provo the cost of their Poke bowls is $15.97.

Image I took of the Menu Board in Kokonut Island Grill when me and my sons ate there for lunch

My sons usually order the Katsu chicken sandwiches which are delicious.

Hawaiian foods are among my favorite!

Warning! If you want to order spam musubi you need to get there earlier in the day because it sells out fast.

All of the recipes used at Kokonut Island Grill are authentic and created by the owners, Carmilla and Andy Puefua.

Hawaiian style restaurants  know how to serve good size portions- so if you have a big appetite order the Aloha plates! They triple on your meats!

Kokonut Island Grill offers sandwiches and entree portion meals which include their delicious Hawaiian macaroni salad! Hawaiian macaroni salad is the only macaroni salad I ever order to eat anywhere. I do make a really good Hawaiian macaroni salad at home but then I eat too much of it, LOL!

It is not a low calorie food:).

They also serve ‘Hawaiian Sun’ brand juice drinks.

How Kokonut Island Grill Started

Kokonut Island Grill in Provo, Utah, brings the flavors of Hawaii to the locals. Co-founders Carmilla and Andy Puefua started the business because they missed the food from their homeland.

They wanted to create a place where the community could gather and enjoy delicious meals.

Andy Puefua realized they could make this dream a reality by opening a restaurant. However, the path to making it happen was not easy. The first two years were tough, and Andy admits it was the most grueling time of his life. However, the couple persevered and were driven by their passion for sharing the flavors of Hawaii.

What really helped Kokonut Island Grill succeed was its food quality. The word spread quickly, and the local community provided support to them. Their menu features traditional Hawaiian dishes such as poke bowls, kalua pork, and more.

All the recipes are homemade and made from scratch, making every dish authentic and flavorful.

Being a small business owner for Andy and Carmilla has allowed them to create jobs, pay taxes, and work closely with their community. They believe that small businesses play a crucial role in America’s economy, and they take pride in contributing to it.

Drop by Kokonut Island Grill and experience the Aloha spirit through their delicious food. You won’t be disappointed!

Review: 5 stars

Yummy is what I have to say!  I rarely choose anything other than my usual order of Ahi Tuna Bowls- because they are just too good and the portions are more than satisfying.

I took a bite out of my son’s Katsu Chicken sandwich and it was delicious and moist.

Don’t leave Kokonut Island Grill without their Macaroni salad and spam musubi.

Kokonut Island Grill in Provo- Authentic Hawaiian Food gets 5 stars from me! And this is coming from a person who loves Hawaiian food, lived in Hawaii for 5 years and searches for great Hawaiian eats!

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
