Mr. Shabu: Sushi and Hotpot Restaurant in Orem Utah

By Katerina Gasset

Every family has its traditions, and ours is no different. Every year, we've celebrated my eldest granddaughter's birthday by taking her out for sushi, her absolute favorite.

This year, her sweet 16, I wanted to up the ante. She loves sushi so much so I looked for an ‘all-you-can-eat’ sushi restaurant.

I found Mr. Shabu, a culinary haven for sushi lovers nestled near Provo, Utah, right on the Orem border.

But Mr. Shabu isn't just another sushi place. This is a super popular restaurant near Provo and it's a paradise for those who appreciate the delicate art of Japanese cuisine.

With an a la carte menu that dazzles, alongside an all-you-can-eat Sushi menu and all-you-can-eat Hot Pot option, it caters to every palate.

Mr. Shabu Restaurant Reservations

Mr. Shabu is a popular Asian restaurant here in Orem so I advise to make reservations a day or so in advance.

This is because they do not accept same day reservations and it is a wait! But SO worth it! We waited about 30 minutes to get a table on a Friday night. To book a table, contact them at: 801-406-6573 or book a reservation through their website.

Our Mr. Shabu Orem Utah Dining Experience

This is a photo taken inside Mr. Shabu Hotpot and Sushi Restaurant in Orem Utah. Their waiting area is full of comfortable chairs showing a glimpse of the cozy dining area...

After 30 minutes of waiting, the owner of the restaurant took down my name to call when our table was ready.

The first thing which impressed me more than even the delicious food was the owner’s amazing ability to remember everyone’s names and add those names to the faces! I watched this for the first 30 minutes we were there.

Customer Service at Mr. Shabu Sushi and Shabu Restaurant

The owner would call out the persons’ name and find the person! He would walk over to wherever that person and their party was waiting, in the lobby area, sitting on a bench or standing in a corner. I can’t tell you how impressed I was.

I can see that this personal touch added a warm, welcoming glow to the dining experience of everyone who was there. It is such an important human relationship thing to do!

The waitress we had was so courteous, smiling and communicative. She told my granddaughter how happy she was to see my granddaughter so happy each time she brought her another order of Sushi.

I remarked to the waitress about the man who seated us. She said he was the ‘big boss’. I told her how impressed I was he could remember so many names and faces! She said, “Oh Yes, he remembers all of us working here too. He is the best boss ever!” That is a wonderful testament to the experience people have when they feel seen!

Some of us ordered the all-you-can-eat Sushi and some of us ordered the all-you-can-eat Hot Pot. It was all delicious, fresh, and visually appealing.

The Sushi menu also included Sashimi so I filled myself up with several orders of Tuna Sashimi.

We ordered so much Sushi, I can’t even remember all our orders! But all of it was delicious. Their Samurai rolls are tender and flavorful with a nice burst of heat from the Jalepinos and Sirachi.

About the author of Move to Provo Utah Website

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
