Black Bear Diners are popular in Utah although they started in Mount Shasta California. It is actually a franchise restaurant. 

We have a Black Bear Diner at University Place Mall, which is basically on the border of Orem and Provo. 

I love to go there for breakfast. They serve breakfast all day long. One of my favorite meals for dinner is breakfast! Hashbrowns, bacon, and eggs over easy with whole wheat toast. Yummy!

Black Bear Diner is super popular. You want to try to go during off-peak times. Otherwise, you will be waiting up to 45 minutes for your table. 

Between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. are the slower times. 

One of my sons and I stopped off to have lunch there and decided, again, to have breakfast instead. 

I ordered the 2 eggs over-easy, bacon, hashbrowns, and whole wheat toast. My son ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with the gravy and biscuits. 

The biscuits are huge! 

It was delicious as usual. 

One time I ordered their avocado toast. It was a disappointment. The toast was dry and all they did was slap a half of an avocado on top of the dry toast. It certainly was NOT worth the price of that menu item.

Black Bear Diner first opened its doors in 1995 in Mt. Shasta, California. Founders Bruce Dean and Bob Manley had a vision of providing an affordable dining experience that was both family-oriented and homey. 

And so they set out to create a unique bear-inspired and log-cabin theme for the restaurant, which has become one of its most prominent features to this day. 

Since then, the concept has grown rapidly across eighth western states, with five locations now located in Utah alone. This includes their fifth Utah location in Orem, which opened on July 27th, 2015.

Black Bear Diner in Provo/Orem is more than just a great place to grab a meal. They’re also making a positive impact by giving back to the community. 

They partner up with Make-A-Wish of America to help make dreams come true for kids in need. On top of that, they also support projects in Nicaragua through their Bears Brew Back program. How awesome is that? 

Bear Brew Back Program 

The coffee served at Black Bear Diner is 100% Nicaraguan. And by partnering with the Java City Coffee Roasters and the Global Aldea Foundation, Black Bear Diner is able to support the communities that grow these delicious coffee beans. 

The Bear Brew Back program’s first project was to improve the well pump and piping system in Mancotal, Nicaragua. This resulted in more people having access to clean water as well as running water in their homes. 

But it doesn’t stop there. Black Bear Diner also sent 2,000 backpacks filled with basic school supplies to children in the local area through their Backpack project. Can you imagine the joy on those kid’s faces? 

This just shows how much Black Bear Diner values education and opportunity for children everywhere. 

Through the program, they also plan to fund three different projects that will benefit local communities: 

  • School Lunchroom - La Virgen Community, Jinotega 
  • Clean Water to Community Homes Pantasma Community, Jinotega

Make-A-Wish of America 

Black Bear Diner has been partnering with Make-A-WishⓇ since 2008. 

It all started when a franchise owner saw firsthand how a wish granted through Make-A-WishⓇ could bring so much joy to a child. This inspired the restaurant chain’s founders to make a promise they would do something meaningful to give back. 

So far, they have already raised more than $1.5 million for this amazing organization!
