Pier 8 Cajun Seafood Restaurant near Provo, Utah (in Orem)

By Katerina Gasset

We received a mailer sent to us with a full-page ad:

Grand Opening of Pier 8 Cajun Seafood Restaurant, near Provo in Orem, Utah.

It is near our favorite seafood restaurant in Utah County called Kickin’ Seafood, a Louisiana-style seafood restaurant.

Pier 8 is Cajun-style seafood with a nice spick kick to it. After living in Florida for 27 years and travelling all throughout the south… I have tried a lot of different Cajun and other varieties of Seafood.

I’ve also eaten at some of the best seafood restaurants along the coast of Oregon, Washington state, and of course, in San Francisco on the Wharf!

It is tough to please my palette since it is quite discerning from my travels.

Pier 8 is a brand-new Cajun-style Seafood restaurant.

You have some of the options at Kickin’ Seafood, the seafood steamed in the bag with potatoes, sausage, a variety of seafood, and corn on the cob.

The difference is the spice. Pier 8’s seafood bags come with your choice of Cajun house spice, lemon pepper, or plain.

What to Order at Pier 8 Cajun Seafood Restaurant near Provo

We chose the Cajun spice option, and it was authentically Cajun.

My favorite menu item was the Shrimp and Sausage Étouffée, a dish I ordered in Louisiana. I was not disappointed. It was served over a bed of white rice.

Tristan loves crawfish and mussels. He chose the build-your-own bag with double the mussels and the crawfish.

He also chose the Cajun spice. Those red potatoes in that sauce were delicious!

One of my grandsons ordered the fried shrimp and chips (french fries), which he devoured.

Another grandson ordered a steamed seafood bag with Crab legs, which he also devoured!

For dessert, we could not pass up on the New Orleans-style beignets. They make them fresh when you order them. Fresh out of the fryer is the only way to eat beignets.

Beignet - the dessert we ordered at Pier 8 Cajun Restaurant in Orem

Why are Beignets so popular in New Orleans and surrounding areas?

Beignets have a rich history that dates back to the Celts and the French. The term “beignet” comes from the Celtic word meaning “to raise,” referring to the dough’s fluffy texture, and in French, it means “fritter”.

These goodies have been a must-have during Mardi Gras celebrations in France since the 16th century. When the French colonists made their way to New Orleans, they brought this culinary tradition.

So, every year during Mardi Gras, beignets became a festive indulgence in New Orleans! But it’s not just during Mardi Gras that people can’t get enough of these sweet treats. People enjoy them all year and for good reason.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about biting into a warm, fluffy beignet. They’re like pillowy clouds of fried dough, dusted with a generous amount of powdered sugar.

They’re perfect for pairing with coffee or hot chocolate - exactly what many people in New Orleans do! A café au lait (coffee with milk) is the perfect accompaniment to a plate of beignets.

Of course, we can’t talk about beignets without mentioning Café du Monde. This iconic café in the French Quarter has been serving its signature beignets since 1862!

But Café du Monde isn’t the only place to get your beignet fix. Other local spots, like Café Beignet and Loretta’s Authentic Pralines, have put their own spin on these classic pastries.

4-Star Review for Pier 8 Cajun Seafood Restaurant

Pier 8 Cajun Seafood Restaurant near Provo- a great place to visit for your Cajun seafood cravings

I am giving Pier 8 a 4-star instead of a 5-Star because the prices are high for what you get.

The service was good, and the servers were super nice.

However, my grandson ordered the Crab legs in a steamed bag, and our server only brought him a plastic picker to get the crab out of the shell. There was no way to crack the crab. He tried and broke a few of the plastic pickers, and finally, I had to ask her to please bring him something he could actually open the crab with. She then brought him the correct pliers to crack the crab. She should have done this from the beginning and not expected a 10-year-old kid to open the crab with bare hands.

I also was not so impressed with their only being wet wipes to wipe your hands after all that mess of eating the seafood in the bags with your fingers. There should have been a washing station other than the restrooms because you don’t want to open the restroom door with your dirty hands.

Interior Design of Pier 8 Cajun Restaurant in Orem Utah

This may be because the Pier 8 Cajun Restaurant just opened, and servers are still being trained.

The mailer brought awareness, but the restaurant would get many more patrons if they offered a coupon in their full-page mailer.

Katerina Gasset

When I moved here I was blessed to have my daughter to help with different things you need to know when you move to a new place. I had background from living here before but things have changed a lot too since the '80s.

We were able to get all the good places to eat down fast - since she knows all that and we have a lot of the same likes in food. But things like how to turn on my electricity or what power company services my home... well... I was at a total loss!

I know that other people moving to Provo don't always have family here to guide and help them. And most people don't have a real estate agent who gives them a welcome package on all the important numbers and places they need to know.

My goal is for this website to be your go to resource for everything you need to know before, during, and after you move here to Provo, Utah. I want you to have the best experience and love living here as much as I do
