Nestled in the heart of Provo/Orem, Kickin’ Seafood Restaurant is a hidden gem, serving up the best seafood in Utah Valley.
The restaurant has a casual atmosphere, and the menu features a variety of seafood items.
Seafood Restaurant Near Me in Provo, Utah
I moved from the east coast of Florida to Provo, Utah. I also lived in San Francisco and Seattle so I know a thing or two about fresh and delicious seafood from living in coastal areas.
So when I moved here, I didn’t even think to look for a good seafood restaurant. After all, this is a mountain area, and it’s nowhere near an ocean.
We had just finished shopping at Trader Joe’s one day and were looking for a place to eat. We spied this restaurant on the side road that runs outside University Mall in Orem.
To tell you the truth, I was a little hesitant initially, but my kids convinced me to try it. Well, how much worse could it be than Red Lobster, LOL!
Cajun Seafood Restaurant in Orem, Utah
Kickin’ Seafood is a Cajun-style seafood restaurant where the food is served boiled in a bag. Two of my sons went there to eat for the first time.
Oh my!!! What a surprise!!! This was actually on par with seafood restaurants in New Orleans!
They exceed my expectation of what Cajun food should look and taste.
Two of my children are chefs with expertise in cooking seafood, so our standard when it comes to seafood restaurants is high.
And we have been back to Kickin’ Seafood several times. This is definitely on our list of go-to places to eat in Provo/Orem. The food is fresh and delicious, and the portions are generous.
The first time we visited Kickin’ Seafood, we were impressed by the wide selection of seafood dishes on the menu. If you love seafood, you need to check out this place!
Why You Should Visit Kickin’ Seafood Restaurant
Let’s talk about the food first!
The main attraction at Kickin’ Seafood is their signature seafood boiled in a bag.
You have 4 boiled bags to choose from. You can also customize the portions. I would definitely recommend getting boiled bags. The seafood is cooked to perfection, and the flavor is fantastic!
The first time we went, I thought it was a bit on the expensive side. But when I saw the size of the bags, and they allowed sharing, I quickly changed my mind. The portions are huge and definitely worth the price.
You can even order a side of white rice to catch some of the delicious Cajun spicy sauce in the bag.
We decided to go with the $78 (at the time of publishing this post) boiled bag. It comes with the Dungenous crab, the tastiest crab in the world, IMO.
The crab was huge for a dungenous. My sons love crawfish, and I like shrimp. We all like the crab.
For $78, one bag could feed 3 to 4 people easily. If you compare the price to regular menu items in other restaurants, you typically have to pay $20 per person.
So this is a great value!
Not only do we have a wide variety of seafood items, but our meal also comes with 3 ears of corn, 3 pieces of sausage, and 3 round red potatoes, all seasoned and boiled in the same bag.
Talk about yummy!
If you go to Kickin’ Seafood Restaurant Provo-Orem for lunch and don’t feel like ordering their seafood boils, you can opt for one of their delicious Po Boy sandwiches. I personally like the Shrimp Po Boy sandwich.
We usually order an appetizer at Kickin’ Seafood Restaurant, and the Cajun wings are always worth trying. They’re spicy and full of flavor, and they always leave us wanting more.
If you’re looking for something to share with your table, or if you’re just looking for a little something to tide you over until your main course arrives, the Cajun wings are a great option.
We’ve also tried the calamari, and it’s good too. The batter is light and crispy, and the squid is cooked perfectly. The dipping sauce is also delicious.
You do get messy! That is part of the experience.
You’ll get your hands dirty if you want to eat here. I know it might sound a little daunting, but trust me – it’s worth it. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of tearing into a juicy piece of seafood with your bare hands.
And I guarantee you’ll be licking your fingers clean by the end of your meal. So go ahead, roll up your sleeves and dig in. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
They bring you a huge metal bucket with bibs, napkins, and seafood tools to crack open your crab. Make sure you wear your bib!!
What really sets Kickin’ Seafood apart is their attention to detail. Kickin’ Seafood owners are really mindful of their customers and their needs.
They know that when you’re eating seafood, you’re going to get your hands dirty. That’s why they have a washing station so that you can wash your hands after you eat all this delicious seafood with your fingers.
When you are cracking crab legs and handling crawfish, those petty towelettes many restaurants give you won’t even begin to clean your hands. That’s why I liked how Kickin’ Seafood had a washing station set up. You didn’t have to go into the restrooms to wash your hands after eating.

Cajun Food Dining Experience at Kickin' Seafood
The ambiance of Kickin’ Seafood restaurant in Provo/Orem is fun and casual. You don’t have to dress up to eat here.
When you walk in, you are greeted by the pirates! How fun is that! Here is a photo I took right inside where you wait to get seated.
The restaurant’s decor is casual, with bayou-styled walls. The walls are covered in graffiti. The fun seafood restaurant-style decor like nets and lobsters also adds a bit of whimsy.
There are TVs throughout the restaurant playing sports channels, so you can catch up on all the latest games while enjoying a delicious meal.
Review - 5 Stars!
I was really impressed with the quality and taste of the food at Kickin’ Seafood, so I'll give them 5 stars.
I give them 4 stars for customer service. I have to say that the customer service could be better. Some wait staff are not as attentive as they need to be with their tables. I’ve had to ask for things a few times because they’ve forgotten about my table.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Kickin’ Seafood Restaurant – the food is impressive, and it’s a great place to enjoy a casual meal with your family and friends.
Whenever I ask the kids – where do you want to go to dinner? They almost always say Kickin’ Seafood!
